Status: Part-time, 30-35 hrs/week
Location: In-person (Faribault, MN)
Pay Rate:  $23-26/hr, depending on experience
Reporting to: Manager, The NCCC (Navigating and Coaching for College and Careers)

About the Role

The mission of the Navigating & Coaching for College & Careers (NCCC) is to provide a quality and accessible local community college option with wrap-around support services that empower young adults to reach their college potential. The Student Services Coordinators establish rapport and develop positive working relationships with NCCC students, helping them navigate the postsecondary systems and working to overcome barriers in order to complete postsecondary training/education that supports them on a path to economic mobility.

The position will have a primary base in Faribault, but will also have hours in Northfield to support students as they are attending classes.  Estimated hours would be 20+ hours in Faribault, and up to 10 hours in Northfield, including one evening until at least 6:30 pm in Northfield.

Responsibilities

• Establish, develop and nurture rapport and positive working relationships with NCCC students, many of whom are first generation college attendees
  • Assist in navigating the postsecondary education landscape and work to reduce/remove barriers that are keeping students from meeting their education goals
• Aid students in planning their postsecondary courses.
  • Assist students in career exploration activities including: career pathways mapping, certification courses, associate and bachelor degree programs
  • Complete degree audits and outline course requirements and completion plans
  • Assist with completion of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); teach students how to complete this form
  • Assist students to learn important financial tasks; provide referrals to resources that may assist with completing and filing taxes
  • Provide some tutoring assistance
• Refer students to community resources, including housing aid, food supports, childcare support, and job opportunities
• Assist, as needed, with the NCCC’s childcare program
• Track data thoroughly and timely to adhere to grant requirements
• Assist with bill payments, ordering textbooks, and other supplies purchases as needed
• Support Faribault and Northfield High School Alumni, including but not limited to post-secondary check-in’s and support, FAFSA assistance, and navigating education and career opportunities

Required Qualities

• Associate and/or Bachelor’s degree
• Experience working with postsecondary students
• Experience adapting style and methods of communication in order to effectively engage with students
• Knowledge of postsecondary education and career options in Minnesota
• Program coordination skills, including the ability to complete accurate and timely electronic record keeping and data tracking, manage time, prioritize tasks effectively, attend to details, work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
• Ability to work late afternoon and evening hours in both Faribault and Northfield
• Ability to work independently

Success in this job also requires

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) and Google Suite
• Strong research skills to be resourceful in assisting students
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
• Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of the Healthy Community Initiative
• Maintenance of a cell phone is an expectation of employment

Preferred Qualities

• Experience with the Minnesota State College and University System
• Experience supporting first generation college students
• Bilingual in either Spanish or Somali
