Summer PLUS, BLAST and STEAM Support Summer Learning at Community Schools

August 10, 2026

Northfield Community School’s Summer BLAST and PLUS programs and Faribault Community Schools’ STEAM program provide students with fun, engaging, and supportive summer learning experiences that blend academics with enrichment opportunities. Designed to build confidence, strengthen social skills, and keep students connected to learning, the programs offer a variety of hands-on clubs and activities that encourage creativity, collaboration, and exploration.

Student favorites include cooking, Nature Club, arts and crafts, LEGO building, board games, and icebreakers, along with other interactive experiences that promote teamwork, problem-solving, and positive relationships. Through their participation in these activities, students stay active, curious, and connected throughout the summer while growing academically, socially, and emotionally, which helps prepare them for returning to school in the fall.

HCI supports Northfield Community School’s PLUS and BLAST programs in part by providing funding received from the After-School Community Learning Grant from the Minnesota Department of Education.
